Heartbreak in Fort Wayne Indiana : 93-Year-Old Woman Killed in Crash Following Police Chase

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — A tragic accident has left a 13-year-old South Lake Tahoe girl fighting for her life after she was struck by a car while riding her e-bike Saturday morning near the Sawmill Pond area.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:50 a.m. on June 7, when the girl, a student at South Tahoe Middle School, was traveling through the crosswalk at Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Sawmill Road. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a 56-year-old woman from South Lake Tahoe was driving eastbound on Lake Tahoe Boulevard when she collided with the young cyclist in the crosswalk.

The force of the impact propelled the girl into the air, where she struck a roadside “snow paddle marker” before landing on the pavement. Emergency responders from local fire departments were among the first on scene and are being commended for their swift and heroic efforts to stabilize the victim. She was transported to Barton Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries. At this time, officials have not released further details about her condition or location.

The CHP is continuing its investigation into the crash, including evaluating factors such as visibility, vehicle speed, and adherence to traffic laws. So far, no citations or arrests have been announced.

“This is an incredibly difficult and tragic incident,” said a CHP spokesperson. “Our hearts are with the young girl, her family, and all those affected. We want to thank the fire personnel whose quick actions likely made a critical difference, as well as the many community members who assisted at the scene.”

The accident has sparked concern and conversation in the community about the growing use of e-bikes among local youth and the importance of safety at busy intersections, especially in areas where pedestrian and cyclist traffic is common. Many residents are calling for enhanced crosswalk protections, better signage, and more driver awareness campaigns to prevent future tragedies.

Officials from South Tahoe Middle School have confirmed the student’s enrollment and said counselors are being made available to students and staff affected by the news.

“This is a close-knit community,” said [Insert Principal or School Official’s Name], “and when something this heartbreaking happens to one of our own, we all feel it. We’re doing everything we can to support our students and the family involved.”

As the investigation continues, community members are being urged to remain vigilant on the roads—whether behind the wheel, on foot, or on two wheels. The CHP emphasized the importance of caution around crosswalks and urged drivers to always expect the unexpected, especially in areas frequented by children.

The girl’s name has not been released out of respect for the family’s privacy.

A candlelight vigil and community prayer circle are currently being organized by local residents, with details to be shared on social media and through school communications in the coming days.

Anyone who witnessed the accident or has information is encouraged to contact the CHP South Lake Tahoe Office.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the injured girl, her family, and all those impacted by this devastating event.
