Kingston Community Grieves the Loss of 34-Year-Old Ryan D. Budd

Newton, NC-The community of Newton and surrounding Catawba County is mourning the tragic and untimely passing of Andrew James Robertson, a 23-year-old beloved son, friend, and colleague, who died on August 2, 2025, at his home in Hickory.

Andrew, a graduate of St. Stephens High School and a dedicated machine operator, was known for his thoughtful nature, deep curiosity, and compassionate heart. Those closest to him say his passions were many — from his love of music and historical insight to his selfless commitment to others.

One of the most defining moments of Andrew’s life came during a humanitarian trip to Ukraine, where he offered time, effort, and empathy to those in need. It was just one example of the caring spirit that made him so cherished by all who knew him.

“Andrew was the kind of person who listened first,” said a close friend. “Whether it was through his music, his travels, or just being present, he made you feel heard and seen.”

Family, friends, and members of the community will gather to honor Andrew’s life and legacy on Saturday, August 10, at Bennett Funeral Service. While his time was far too short, the memories he created and the kindness he extended will endure.

He is survived by loved ones whose lives were made brighter by his presence — and who now face the difficult task of saying goodbye to a young man who gave so much and had so much more ahead.

As Newton reflects on this heartbreaking loss, the echoes of Andrew’s music, laughter, and quiet acts of grace continue to resonate
