Mason City, IA-With heavy hearts and tearful eyes, the Mason City community mourns the passing of a young warrior known lovingly as “Oz,” who left this world in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Earlier this year, Oz was honored in true superhero fashion — surrounded by friends, family, and a league of local heroes who gathered to celebrate his bright spirit and boundless courage. It was a day filled with joy and love, marking just how many lives he touched in his short but unforgettable journey.

In the months that followed, Oz was admitted to the Stead Family Children’s Hospital, where he spent his remaining days. Even in that hospital room, his love for heroes never faded. Among the many visitors were Spider-Man and Batman — his favorite characters — who brought smiles and strength during some of the most difficult moments.

Oz’s strength, heart, and sense of wonder inspired all who met him. His story reminded us that even the smallest among us can possess the mightiest courage.

Today, we join his family in grief, lifting them up in our thoughts and prayers in the days, weeks, and years to come. We’re grateful to have been a part of Oz’s incredible journey — to have shared in his laughter, his strength, and his unshakeable love of life.
