MARGATE, KENT —Heartbreak has swept through the community after a devastating accident outside Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital claimed the life of a four-year-old boy on Thursday afternoon.
Shortly after 4 p.m. on August 7, emergency services were called to Ramsgate Road, near the entrance to the hospital’s A\&E department, following reports of a collision involving a white single-decker bus and a pedestrian.
According to Kent Police, the child had just left the hospital on foot when he was struck. He was rushed into the hospital for emergency treatment, but despite the best efforts of medical staff, he was sadly pronounced dead a short time later. His next of kin has been informed.
The boy’s mother, Azaria, shared her grief publicly, describing her son — affectionately known as Jan — as “my most beautiful little boy” with “a cheeky smile that could make anyone’s heart full.” In an emotional statement, she said:
> “I can’t believe you are gone from me… I can’t believe they couldn’t save you. Everyone is devastated, but that word doesn’t even feel enough to explain how we are all feeling. I just want to give him the most beautiful and comfortable burial I can.”
The Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is appealing for witnesses, including bus passengers who have not yet spoken to police, to come forward. Anyone with information or dashcam footage is urged to contact officers on 01622 798538 or email [sciu.td@kent.pnn.police.uk](mailto:sciu.td@kent.pnn.police.uk), quoting reference KH//055/25.
A GoFundMe page has been launched by the family to help cover funeral costs and honor the memory of the “sweet, funny boy” whose life ended far too soon.
Police inquiries are ongoing.
