MILWAUKEE, WI —A quiet corner of Milwaukee was shattered overnight by senseless violence, leaving a community in mourning and a family grappling with an unimaginable loss.

Bre’nee Veasley, just 19 years old, was killed late Friday night in a mass shooting that injured five other teenagers outside a strip mall near North 83rd Street and West Brown Deer Road.

According to authorities, shots rang out shortly after 11:30 p.m. during what witnesses described as a gathering of young people in the parking lot. The motives behind the violence remain unclear, but the aftermath is heartbreakingly certain.

Bre’nee, a beloved daughter, friend, and aspiring nurse, was pronounced dead at the scene. She had been studying nursing with hopes of returning to her community to care for others — a dream that ended far too soon.

“She wanted to help people. She wanted to heal,” said her aunt, Tanya Veasley, through tears. “Now we’re the ones broken. And there’s no way to fix this.”

Police say five other teens, ranging in age from 16 to 18, were taken to local hospitals with injuries that are not considered life-threatening. No arrests have been made as of Saturday morning, and investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Mayor Cavalier Johnson called the shooting “a tragedy that underscores the urgent need to address youth violence and illegal firearms in our city.”

Community leaders and residents are planning a vigil at the site of the shooting on Sunday night, where candles will be lit in memory of Bre’nee — a young woman whose future was filled with compassion, potential, and purpose.
