MILWAUKEE, WI — A devastating motorcycle crash on Milwaukee’s Hoan Bridge has claimed the life of 21-year-old Devon Davis, a young father whose sudden death has left his family and community in mourning.
The crash occurred late Sunday evening, halting traffic on the bridge and drawing the immediate attention of nearby drivers. Witnesses say Davis was found lying motionless near his mangled motorcycle as bystanders rushed to help. Among them was Caesar Banks, who happened to be passing by and sprang into action.
“You see the young man lying there… at that point, I pulled my car up. I see his bike, I pulled over to the side, jumped out,” Banks recounted, adding that he keeps medical gloves in his vehicle “because you never know.”
Banks, along with two others — both trained in emergency medicine — began administering CPR and rendering aid while waiting for paramedics to arrive. Despite their desperate efforts, Devon Davis was later pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the collision.
“It’s hard,” Banks said, visibly shaken. “Because one day, that could be me on my bike.”
Davis’s family has confirmed his identity and described him as a devoted father and vibrant young man, full of potential and fiercely loved by those who knew him. His untimely passing has sent shockwaves throughout Milwaukee’s biking and local communities.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the crash. At this time, it is unclear whether other vehicles were involved or if weather, speed, or road conditions played a role. Authorities have not released additional details pending the ongoing investigation.
In the face of tragedy, many have pointed to the courage and compassion shown by those who stopped to help.
“People didn’t just drive by — they stopped, they helped, they fought for him,” said one witness. “That says something about this city, about who we are.”
