Carleton, MI — The quiet town of Carleton, Michigan is reeling from the devastating loss of Faith Renee Hamilton, a bright and beloved 16-year-old whose life was tragically cut short under suspicious circumstances on June 17. Faith, affectionately known as “Renee,” was a student at Carleton High School, a passionate artist, a loyal friend, and a radiant presence whose sudden passing has sent waves of grief through her school and community.
Described by her teachers and peers as “a light in the darkness” and “a soul wise beyond her years,” Faith had dreams as big as her heart. A dedicated student with a love for English and history, she was an active member of the drama club, where she shone both onstage and behind the scenes. Her heartfelt performances and creative vision left lasting impressions on classmates and faculty alike.
But Faith’s talents extended well beyond the theater. She was known for her fierce compassion—for animals, for friends, and for her hometown. She volunteered regularly at the local animal shelter, participated in community clean-ups, and raised funds for various charitable causes. Her dream was to become a veterinarian or wildlife biologist, dedicating her life to caring for creatures who couldn’t speak for themselves.
A Shocking Tragedy
On the morning of June 17, Faith was found deceased in what authorities have confirmed is a homicide investigation. Details remain limited as law enforcement continues to pursue leads, but police have assured the public that every resource is being directed toward finding the person or persons responsible. The investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time.
The news of Faith’s death has sent shockwaves through the Monroe County area. Vigils have begun to take shape, with students, teachers, and neighbors gathering to share stories, light candles, and write messages of love and remembrance.
Remembering Faith
Faith is survived by her heartbroken parents, Scott and Patricia Hamilton Monroe of Carleton; her younger brother, Michael; her grandparents, Scott and Renee Hamilton of Monroe; and a large extended family who adored her. In a statement, the family described Faith as “a girl whose love was limitless, whose smile could disarm sadness, and whose laughter made life brighter.”
“She was more than a daughter,” said her mother, Patricia. “She was our joy, our dreamer, our artist, our heart.”
Carleton High School has announced the availability of grief counselors and a memorial service on campus later this month to honor Faith’s life and give students and staff a safe space to mourn together.
Honoring Her Legacy
Visitation for Faith will take place at Stafford Funeral Home in Carleton on Friday and Saturday, June 20–21, with a funeral service on Saturday at 11:00 a.m., followed by burial at Carleton Community Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to either Carleton Animal Rescue, a cause close to Faith’s heart, or the newly created Faith Hamilton Memorial Scholarship Fund, which will support students pursuing careers in animal science, the arts, or social service—reflecting the passions Faith held most dear.
A Community in Mourning
As the investigation into her tragic death continues, one thing is clear: Faith’s life mattered. She was not just another student, not just another name. She was Faith—brilliant, kind, creative, and full of promise.
In the words of one friend: “The world didn’t deserve someone as good as her—but we were lucky to have her for the time we did.”
May her memory be a blessing. May justice be swift. And may the spark Faith ignited in those around her continue to shine long after the lights have dimmed.
