HICKMAN, NE — The town of Hickman is grieving the loss of Megan Rae Yonkey, a deeply loved and compassionate woman whose life left a lasting imprint on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Megan passed away on June 20, 2025, at the age of 48, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering warmth.

Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, Megan was the embodiment of quiet grace and vibrant energy. Whether in her role as a daughter, friend, or community member, she carried herself with a gentle spirit and a heart always open to others. Those closest to her speak of a woman who radiated light, offered a listening ear, and never hesitated to lend a helping hand.

“She had a way of making people feel safe and valued,” said a close family friend. “Even in your darkest moment, Megan would be the one to lift you up.”

Her presence in Hickman was more than just familiar—it was cherished. From local events to quiet moments of support behind the scenes, Megan played a part in nurturing the heart of the community. Her passing has left a void that will not soon be filled.

A Rosary in Megan’s honor will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Saint James Catholic Church. Family, friends, and all whose lives she touched are invited to attend and celebrate the life of a woman who gave so much to so many.

As the community gathers to say goodbye, there is comfort in knowing that Megan’s spirit will live on—in the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the kindness passed forward in her name.
