The Mount Airy community is in mourning following the unexpected death of Miia Illiano, beloved wife of Frank Illiano, owner of New York J&P Pizza in Mount Airy. Miia passed away in a tragic car accident on Interstate 70 near Exit 68 on June 9, 2025,was originally from West Palm Beach, Florida.

According to Maryland State Police, the crash occurred around 3 p.m. when a vehicle hauling diesel fuel veered off the left side of the roadway and overturned in the median before catching fire. The driver, tentatively identified as William J. Costigan, 57, of Damascus, was declared dead at the scene. Miia was not involved in this incident, and there is no indication of her presence at the crash site.

Miia Illiano was a cherished member of the Mount Airy community, known for her warmth and generosity. She and her husband, Frank, built a thriving family business that became a staple in the area. Miia was deeply involved in the restaurant, often seen greeting customers with a smile and ensuring everyone felt at home. Her passing has left a profound void in the hearts of all who knew her.
