Temiskaming Region –The communities of Thornloe, Armstrong, and the greater Temiskaming region are in mourning following the passing of Reynald Rivard — a respected and deeply valued figure in local government whose decades of service left a lasting mark.

Rivard, who faithfully served as Clerk-Treasurer for the Village of Thornloe, Councillor for the Township of Armstrong, and Clerk-Treasurer for the Temiskaming Municipal Association, passed away this week. His death has left colleagues, friends, and community members grappling with the loss of not just a dedicated public servant, but a kind and principled man.

Over the years, Rivard became a familiar and trusted face across council chambers and committee rooms in the region. Known for his meticulous attention to detail, unwavering integrity, and calm leadership, he played a quiet but critical role in helping shape policy, support infrastructure development, and strengthen municipal collaboration.

“Reynald embodied what it meant to serve,” one longtime municipal colleague shared. “He wasn’t just doing a job — he cared, deeply, about the people in these communities. He believed in making things better, and he worked tirelessly to do so.”

While his titles reflected his leadership in administration and finance, Rivard’s contributions extended far beyond numbers and meetings. He was a mentor to many, a reliable voice in uncertain times, and a steady hand during challenges large and small.

His passing has left a notable silence in spaces where his insight and presence once guided decisions and built trust between communities. Flags in Thornloe and Armstrong have been lowered in his honor.

To Reynald Rivard’s family and loved ones, we extend our heartfelt condolences. May you find comfort in knowing that his legacy of service, humility, and quiet strength will endure in the villages and townships he so faithfully served.

He will be deeply missed — and fondly remembered.
