Saginaw in Mourning: 1-Year-Old Killed, Man Critically Injured in Heartbreaking East Side Shooting

Beloved Motorcyclist Joseph Pandolfi, 73, Dies in Tragic Crash at Wyoming Rest Area

Saginaw, Michigan-A community is in mourning tonight after an unthinkable tragedy rocked Saginaw’s east side — a 1-year-old boy is dead and a 25-year-old man remains in critical condition following a shooting that unfolded just before 7:00 p.m. Monday evening near Robinwood Avenue and Erie Street.

Police say the victims, both Saginaw residents, were rushed to Covenant Hospital by a private vehicle before emergency responders arrived at the scene. Despite the valiant efforts of hospital staff, the infant could not be saved. The adult victim remains in critical condition as medical teams continue to fight for his life.

Authorities are withholding the names of the victims as they work to notify next of kin, but the pain is already rippling through the community — a child’s life senselessly stolen, a family shattered, and a city left asking why.

Investigators from the Saginaw Police Department and the Michigan State Police Major Crimes Unit quickly responded to both the scene and the hospital, launching an intensive investigation. Crime scene tape now surrounds Robinwood and Erie, where detectives are gathering evidence and speaking to potential witnesses in the hopes of piecing together what led to this devastating act of violence.

At this time, no arrests have been made, and police have not disclosed whether the victims were targeted or innocent bystanders caught in crossfire. The motive remains unclear, and officials are pleading with the public to come forward with any information.

“This was a senseless and heartbreaking loss,” a Saginaw Police spokesperson said through tears. “A baby is gone — a baby who had his entire life ahead of him. We are committed to doing everything we can to bring justice to this grieving family.”

The shooting has drawn swift and emotional responses across the community. Local leaders, residents, and advocates have taken to social media, expressing outrage, sorrow, and a desperate call for change in the wake of rising gun violence.

Community members will gather tomorrow evening at the site of the shooting for a candlelight vigil, remembering a life taken far too soon and standing together in grief and solidarity.

As investigators continue to work around the clock, the city of Saginaw is left grappling with a question that has no answer: How do we stop the violence before another family feels this pain?

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-5245. All tips can remain anonymous.

Tonight, Saginaw mourns. A child’s light has gone out — and with it, a piece of the city’s heart.
