Tragedy Strikes Danville Virginia: 22-Year-Old Jay’Shaun White Killed, Several Injured in Overnight Shooting

ELKHART IN MOURNING — One Dead, Eleven Injured in West Garfield Avenue Indiana Mass Shooting

DANVILLE, VA — The Danville community is reeling after a violent shooting late Saturday night left one young man dead and multiple others wounded in a shocking outbreak of gunfire near Carver Drive and Cheyenne Drive. The incident, which occurred just before 1:30 a.m. on June 11, has prompted a homicide investigation as police work to piece together the devastating events that unfolded.

Officers responding to multiple 911 calls found a stationary Chrysler sedan in the roadway with 22-year-old Jay’Shaun Tiejae White, of Hurt, Virginia, lying fatally wounded in the front passenger seat. White succumbed to a gunshot wound to the upper body, marking a tragic loss for his family and friends.

The driver, a 26-year-old man from Java, Virginia, was also found nearby suffering from a gunshot injury. He, along with two other men injured in the shooting — a 31-year-old and a 25-year-old, both from Danville — were transported to local hospitals for emergency treatment. A 19-year-old female victim was treated and released after sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary reports indicate the shooting erupted amid an altercation at a large outdoor gathering, leading to a deadly exchange of gunfire involving the occupants of the Chrysler and others present. The exact motive and details remain under investigation as law enforcement officials strive to understand how a night meant for gathering turned into tragedy.

“This is a heartbreaking situation for all involved,” said a spokesperson for the Danville Police Department. “We are committed to finding answers and bringing justice for Mr. White and those affected.”

The community has been left shaken by the violence, with neighbors and witnesses coming forward to offer what little information they have. Police urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has video footage to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.

Those with information are encouraged to contact the Danville Police Department’s non-emergency line at (434) 799-5111, the Investigations Division at (434) 799-6508, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at (434) 793-0000.

As the city mourns the loss of a young life cut short, questions remain unanswered and grief weighs heavy. The hope is that through community cooperation and diligent police work, those responsible will be held accountable and some measure of peace can be found.

Our thoughts go out to the family of Jay’Shaun White and to all victims affected by this senseless act of violence.
