Seekonk, Massachusetts-A tragic collision late Sunday night has left a Rhode Island community in mourning after 18-year-old Abriana Herrera Perez of Providence was killed in a violent three-car crash on Interstate 195 West, just shy of the Massachusetts–Rhode Island border.

The crash occurred shortly before 11:00 p.m., sending shockwaves through both Seekonk and Providence. According to Massachusetts State Police, Herrera Perez was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Described by friends and family as bright, loving, and full of promise, Abriana had recently graduated high school and was said to be looking forward to her future. Her sudden death has left a hole in the hearts of all who knew her.

“She had the biggest smile—so much energy and kindness,” said a childhood friend. “We still can’t believe she’s gone.”

The collision shut down all westbound lanes of I-195 for hours as investigators and emergency crews from multiple jurisdictions worked through the night. The aftermath was described by first responders as “chaotic” and “heartbreaking.”

Five other people were injured, some seriously, and were transported to Rhode Island Hospital and Sturdy Memorial Hospital. Their current conditions have not been released, though officials say all are expected to recover.

Authorities are still investigating the circumstances that led to the crash. It remains unclear whether speed, distraction, or impairment were contributing factors. No charges have been filed, and the identities of the other drivers and passengers involved have not been made public.

The Massachusetts State Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage from that night to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.

In the days ahead, a candlelight vigil is expected to be held in Providence to honor Abriana’s life and memory. Though details are still being arranged, loved ones say the gathering will be a space to grieve, share memories, and celebrate the life of a young woman who touched so many in such a short time.

“We always knew she was special,” said a relative. “But seeing the outpouring of love now… it just shows how deeply she impacted everyone.”

As the investigation continues, the crash stands as a painful reminder of how fragile and fleeting life can be. The community, now bonded by grief, holds onto the light that Abriana brought to the world—and the aching loss of all that could have been.
