Dresden, ON — With hearts shattered and spirits heavy, the community of Dresden is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Decker James Beatty, a bright, kind-hearted 12-year-old who died on July 6, 2025, following a tragic UTV accident. A rising star in the Dresden Minor Hockey Association, Decker’s sudden passing has left an immeasurable void in the lives of his family, teammates, coaches, and everyone privileged to know him.
Described by those closest to him as “quietly strong” and “deeply kind,” Decker was the kind of young boy who led by example—on and off the ice. Whether skating circles around defenders or cracking a joke with his siblings, Berkeley and Blake, Decker lived each moment with energy, humility, and love.
A Teammate, A Leader, A Friend
At the arena, he was more than just a player—he was family. Coaches and teammates remember him as a dependable, hardworking athlete who always put the team first. Though never the loudest voice in the room, his presence was always felt.
“Where’s Decker?” was a common question at games and practices—not because he was ever late, but because everything just felt more complete when he was there.
“He was the kind of kid who made others better,” said one of his coaches. “Not just on the ice, but in life. His character shone through in everything he did.”
A Family’s Light, A Community’s Loss
Born to Jamie and Michelle Beatty, Decker was deeply loved by his family, who cherished his joyful laugh, his thoughtful soul, and the warmth he brought into every room. He shared a special bond with his siblings and cousins—Avery, Lila, Henry, Willow, and Lars—and was adored by his grandparents, Jeff and Jackie Beatty, Cathy McFadden, and the late Tim McFadden.
His aunts and uncles—Marianne, Rob, Annie, Nick, and Josh—recall his adventurous nature, his creative spirit, and the way he made every family gathering feel brighter. Decker loved fishing, biking, exploring outdoors, and of course, playing hockey—his true passion.
A Celebration of a Short But Radiant Life
To honor Decker’s life, a Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at the Ken Houston Memorial Agricultural Centre in Dresden. A walk-through visitation will take place from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, with a service to follow at 3:00 PM.
The Beatty family extends their deepest gratitude to the first responders and medical staff who did everything possible in the aftermath of the accident. Their care and compassion will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Decker’s memory are encouraged to make donations to the Dresden Minor Hockey Association, Dresden Area Central School Athletics, or Ronald McDonald House Charities Southwestern Ontario—causes close to the family’s heart.
A Legacy of Love and Light
Though Decker’s time on earth was painfully short, his impact will echo for generations. He was a beacon of joy, a model of quiet courage, and a reminder of the beauty of a life lived with kindness and heart.
Rest in peace, Decker. The ice will never feel the same without you—but your spirit will skate with us forever.
